DPF Problems in Ely: Why Short Fen-Road Trips Kill Filters
DPF blockage is the single most common diesel fault we see in Ely. The reason is geography: short hops to Tesco, school runs through Witchford, 20-minute commutes to Soham — none of it gets the DPF hot enough long enough to regenerate properly.
A DPF needs roughly 20+ minutes at motorway revs to burn off accumulated soot. Most Ely commutes fall short. The result is a slow, expensive clog — engine warning lights, limp mode, failed regen attempts, and eventually a £1,500-£3,000 replacement bill from a main dealer.
Two real fixes if you're in CB6/CB7. First: a forced regeneration plus a custom map that lowers the regen trigger — works well if the filter is still serviceable. Second: a full DPF delete (filter removed, ECU rewritten to ignore it) for off-road use only. Eliminates the problem permanently and recovers a small power gain.
We diagnose for free and tell you straight whether your DPF can be saved or whether deletion is the only sensible route. Either way, no more limp mode.
